The History of Cake Toppers

The wedding cake topper has a long history and has been a tradition in weddings for a long time. It has been so long in fact that most of the details of when it started are shrouded in mystery. Yet there is no denying its’ significance.  It is not exactly known if this is a true story or not, but it is a fun story at least and one that shows the significance of the wedding cake topper.

Once upon a time, about 100 years ago, a bakers’ daughter was about to get married. To celebrate this happy occasion, she asked her father to create a symbol of the love between her and the groom that everyone could see.

After mulling over several ideas and carefully deliberating over each one of them, the father decided to make a unique creation: a beautiful wedding cake, but added two unique figurines to the top of the cake. One of them symbolized his daughter and the other her future husband. The baker felt this was the perfect symbol of their love and their unity.

On the wedding day, the baker presented his daughter with his beautiful gift – a gift made with true love and affection. The daughter was overjoyed and deeply touched by the thoughtful gift and decided to place the cake, with its’ figurines, at the centre of the wedding reception, thus symbolizing the importance of the love between the couple! For her, it was the best gift she could have received.

Today, there are so many wedding cake topper options! From representing your mutual or independent interests to reflecting the style and décor of your big day. Whichever design or style of cake topper you choose, let it symbolize your love for each other.
